No Money Spent on Marketing Hawken

By David West

Meteor, the makers of Hawken, have decided to market through other means other than the traditional advertisements in gaming magazines, websites, and television/radio. They claim the game is good enough to be marketed through word of mouth, as well as through other, growing means such as films and crossover promotions.

Traditionally, marketing through the normal advertising medium distinguished your game. Ever since Minecraft, however, more companies want to try a similar approach. Is this feasible in today's marketplace and economy? Is Hawken good enough to stand on word of mouth alone? Can a company compete in the swollen marketplace of similar games like Firefall out competing against your model without traditional marketing?
