Far Cry Primal Beast Master Trailer
In October, Ubisoft announced that they would turn back time in their upcoming Far Cry game and let us experience the stone age from the viewpoint of a proto-human. Takkar the hunter is the last of his tribe, and he needs to do whatever he can to make it to the top of the food chain. This includes making his own weapons and clothes, take down rival tribes and animals that threaten Takkar and his people.
One of the hunter's key skills is the ability to tame wild animals, not too different from the movie The Beastmaster from 1982. These animals can act as your companions and aid you when you go hunting, or they can act as protection whenever you are under attack. All this was announced on Thursday in Ubisoft's official blog, at the same time as a new trailer was released. You can see the trailer below.
As we started to study the time period, we learned that in Siberia, in order to actually hunt giant mammoths, man formed an alliance with wolf. So this was an interesting starting point, and it made us realize that with all the animals we have, we had enough opportunities to pursue this idea. It started with the wolf, and then we just decided to go ahead and create a lot of diversity, because all the animals have really different approach.
So if a wolf is not quite you thing, you can immediately swap it out with a jaguar or a bear, or any other animal you have tamed. Each animal has different strengths, weaknesses and perks: wolves are capable hunters, for example, while cats are excellent stealth partners and bears are damage-soaking tanks.
Takkar also has another ally, a giant prehistoric owl which is not visibly following you. This owl is pretty much the equivalent of the binoculars in the previous Far Cry games, as you switch to the owl's viewpoint to tag enemies. The owl can also swoop down to kill enemies or destroy cages, and it can be leveled up to drop bombs and other goodies on your enemies. They also confirmed that you will be able to tame and ride mammoths.
Far Cry Primal is set to arrive to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on Feburary 23.
