EA Wants To Make More Star Wars Games
Star Wars Battlefront is going to be the first game out of many. EA's CFO Blake Jorgenson explained that EA has a 10-year licensing deal with Disney, which will result in multiple Battlefront games as well as other Star Wars games in other genres for both console, PC and mobile platforms.
"We struck a licensing deal with Disney a few years back that's almost ten years in length. The game that comes out tomorrow, Star Wars Battlefront, is a traditional first-person style shooter game. Our goal is to make future Battlefront games as well as other style games around the Star Wars franchise, both on mobile as well as console and PC. It's a huge opportunity for us," Jorgensen said about Battlefront, which launches for Xbox One, PS4, and PC on November 17 in America and November 19 in Europe.
One of the upcoming games that Jorgensen mentioned is probably the mysterious Star Wars game that is currently being developed by Visceral Games, who are also the developers behind Dead Space. Very little information is known about the project so far, apart from the fact that it is run by Amy Hennig, previously a director for Uncharted.
Has the rights to all the films
EA have also secured the rights to the existing 6 films, as well as the upcoming trilogy which will start off with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in December. Despite this Jorgensen says that there are no current plans to make any games based directly off any of the movies. Instead they want to use everything the movies offer to create great and exciting games.
The licensing deal with Disney states that EA are pretty much free to create whatever they want, however they must adhere to one very important rule. "You can't do something counter to Star Wars and that's fine with us because I think that's why people love Star Wars," Jorgensen said.
