Destiny Wins Best Game BAFTA In A Ceremony Of Upsets

By Alex Bullock

If any bookies were taking bets on the BAFTA Game Awards, there'll be a few unhappy punters tonight: Destiny has taken home the top prize.

Bungie's maligned shooter capped an evening of David and Goliath battles, in which indies largely trumped their blockbuster counterparts. Creative Assembly's Alien: Isolation took home just one prize for Audio Achievement from six nominations, while Mario Kart 8 - nominated in four categories including Best Game - missed out altogether.

The Escher puzzler Monument Valley was perhaps the night's standout success, winning Best British & Best Mobile Game. Elsewhere, Ashley Johnson picked up a second gong for her performance as Ellie in The Last of Us: Left Behind, which also won for Best Story, and OlliOlli beat the likes of FIFA 15 and Forza Horizon 2 to be crowned king of digital sports.

The full list of winners can be found here. If you want to admire Rufus Hound's beard in its full glory, the entire show should soon be available on YouTube.
